Transformation Shot
In this shot, after the cave stops shaking, they put the flashlights on Carlos to check on him. Carlos was sitting on the ground facing a cave wall. He stands up slowly and turns to them as he transforms into a cave monster. I keyed the green screen elements. I morphed the footage of Carlos to the one of the monster. It was a full-body transformation. Their clothes are very different such as the pants vs skirts and shaved head vs head cloth, so it was very difficult. I started the transformation from their bodies and clothes. Because they don’t turn around to show the face until the end of the shot, I did the head transformation at the end while he turns his head around. I added the spotlight, shadow, smoke and camera shake.
Cave Shaking Shot
In this shot, the cave starts shaking hard, and rocks and dust fall from the top of the cave. I composited falling rocks and dust. I was able to track the ground in Mocha even though the camera shake was extremely strong. I had to animate and manually track some of the frames because there was nowhere to track for many frames.
Malibu Horror Tapes
In the summer of 2012, four teenagers from Malibu mysteriously vanished without a trace. Now, after uncovering new evidence, Josh Davidson leads his amateur team of paranormal investigators to a forgotten cave located on sacred Native American burial ground. As the team searches for the missing teens, they discover the horrifying truth and come face to face with an ancient evil. Malibu Horror Tape is a horror found footage film, so it has a lot of extremely shaky and long length shots. It was very difficult to track some of the shots, but by using planar tracking in mocha, I was able to make it work.
